Frequently Asked Questions

How often do I need to come to Clubhouse to fulfill my membership requirements?

Thunderbird Clubhouse membership is voluntary and without time limits. Members come when they choose and participate based on their preferences. Members do not need to make appointments, and there are no contracts or agreements members need to sign for participation.

Do you accept physical donations like food, clothes or furniture?

We accept donations of all kinds, but we ask that donations be clean. We are not able to pick up or transport donations.

Do you accept community volunteers?

Since our program depends on member involvement in all the work, we do not accept traditional volunteers to perform the work of the Clubhouse. However, we utilize volunteers occasionally for specific needs (such as teaching a class or helping with special events).

Will I be assigned a therapist or case manager?

Clubhouse does not provide clinical services. The Clubhouse Model is based on the premise that the work and relationships are therapeutic in nature. Clubhouses are purposefully designed so that they do not appear or feel like a mental health or institutional setting. Staff are not licensed mental health professionals and instead help facilitate and engage members in the work of the Clubhouse.

What are your hours?

We are open Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. We also host socials on weekends and are open every federal holiday.

Do your services cost money?

All of our programs are free to members. Members run a small snackbar where food and beverages can be purchased. Daily lunches cost $1.00.

Can you get me a place to live?

Thunderbird Clubhouse is not a residential facility, and we do not have emergency shelter space available. However, Clubhouse runs a housing program that provides limited assistance for our members who are homeless. Members and staff also assist with landlord linkage and advocacy.

Can you help me get a job?

Thunderbird Clubhouse offers an employment program where we help link members to employers in the community. Members and staff also assist with job readiness skills, resume building, mock interviewing, and other employment supports. Although we have a high success rate helping our members obtain and maintain employment, we do not guarantee immediate job placement. It largely depends on the member’s investment and motivation in the employment process.

Can I bring family or guests?

Since our program is designed to help our members regain independence and self-sufficiency, we ask that members attend alone. Due to HIPAA restrictions, individuals who are not members or staff are not allowed to be in Clubhouse during our Work Ordered Day.

Do you offer transport? How do I get to Clubhouse?

We offer transportation for our members Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Pick up time is between 8-9am and take home time is between 3:30-5:00pm.

Can I visit / take a tour?

We are happy to set up a tour for anyone interested in learning more about our program and seeing our facilities. Please call 405-321-7331 to set up a tour.

Can I bring my emotional support animal?

Therapy or emotional support animals are not allowed at Clubhouse. Service animals are welcome.

What does the Thunderbird in Thunderbird Clubhouse stand for?

This is a funny story. One of our founding members came up with the name Thunderbird because of his favorite female roller derby team, The Los Angeles Thunderbirds. We are not associated with Lake Thunderbird, Thunderbird Lodge, or Thunderbird Casino.
